About Us
We are at the forefront of environmental compliance for wildfire resilience projects throughout Northern California. We support local Resource Conservation Districts, California State Park, Department of General Services, local fire districts, County Parks, major utilities, and state and local firesafe councils, to implement their Wildfire Hazard Mitigation Plan, Fire Prevention Plans, and various other fuel treatment programs. Our biologists work alongside agencies and crews to determine the most appropriate measures to implement to ensure natural resource protection, proper permitting and CEQA/NEPA review, and effective fuel reduction and fire prevention measures, from shaded fuel breaks and evacuation routes, to controlled burns. We are also providing compliance during major hazard reduction work resulting from the recent LZU and CZU fires that occurred in 2020.
About you
We are looking for a Sr. Project Manager who wants to join a growing firm, and who wants to continue building our team of almost 50 biologists to enhance our Fire Prevention and Mitigation services. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of major players in this arena, understand and have extensive experience in regulatory permitting with CDFW, USFWS, RWQCB, as well as Calfire’s programmatic EIR, the Vegetation Treatment Program.
The ideal candidate will be someone who wants to grow a department with the full support of their peers and leadership team, and who want to grow their professional acumen within the Fire Prevention arena. We are looking for a driven and self-directed person who wants to build relationships, recruit talented individuals for their team, and lead complex projects throughout California.
What you get to do
Manage preparation of a CEQA document for a vegetation management project in cooperation with interdisciplinary staff and public agency clients.
Manage preparation of a NEPA document that addresses fire fuel reduction and forest ecosystem restoration on National Forest, National Park, or Reclamation watershed lands.
Manage environmental review of park and open space, ecosystem restoration, or fish and wildlife management plans, in addition to wildfire resilience projects.
Collaborate with state or federal agency staff to identify the most appropriate strategy to comply with CEQA or NEPA, including streamlining innovations.
Contribute to a forest management plan or fire protection plan for a land conservancy, local government, or state agency.
Evaluate a proposed vegetation management project for consistency with the California Vegetation Treatment Program (CalVTP) or a similar programmatic environmental document.
Help prepare a scope of work and price estimate for new work to conduct an environmental review of a forest management plan, fire protection plan, or fuel reduction project.
Speak at a conference or in-house training about the latest strategies to increase the pace and scale of vegetation treatment to promote wildfire resilience or best practices in fire protection planning.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
We are looking for an environmental project manager with a strong interest in forest resilience and wildfire risk reduction to be a key member of our growing wildfire and forest resilience practice.
The candidate should be in California or Nevada. While you may work from home most of the time, you also need to be able to report periodically to one of our offices in Sacramento, Bay Area or San Diego.
Candidates should have a BS or MS in environmental studies, ecology, forestry, or a related field and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.
Excellent writing skills are important.
Strong organizational skills for budget and schedule management are also important.
Knowledge of CEQA and/or NEPA is required.
The candidate will be working on interesting and complex projects throughout California and will be on the leading edge of California’s effort to address the state’s wildfire and climate crises.
